Goin' Down to Brownsville

"Going Down To Brownsville" aka "The Girl I Love, She Got Long Curly Hair"
credit is usually given to Sleepy John Estes b. 25 January 1904 d. 5 June
1977 who originally recorded it (24 September 1929)

This is a song called "Goin' Down To Brownsville"

Honey, when I'm goin' down to Brownsville
gonna take that right hand road, now.
Honey when I'm goin' down to Brownsville
gonna take that right hand road.
Yeah and if you see my baby
come on please and tell him I'm a comin' on.

Honey if you catch my jumper
hangin' around outside your wall, yeah.
Honey if you catch me my jumper
hangin' around outside your wall.
Well your gonna know by that babe
you better get your ashes hauled.

Ah say now I'm going down to Brownsville
gonna take that right hand road, now.
Honey when I'm goin' down to Brownsville
know that I'm Goin' to take that right hand road.
Yeah and if you see my baby
come on please and tell him I'm a commin' on.

Honey if your house catches fire
you know and there ain't no water around there.
Honey if your house catches fire
you know and there ain't no water around.
Well just throw your childr'n on out the window
and let the god-damn shack burn down.

Don't ya see now I'm goin down to Brownsville, honey
I'm goin' to take that right hand road.
That's right honey, I'm goin down to Brownsville, you know
and I'm goin' to take that right hand road.
And if you see my baby
come on please and a tell him I'm a comin' home, Yeah ¥Ç¥

As recorded on CD "This Is Janis Joplin" (track 7) and backed by Big
Brother and the Holding Company guitarist, James "St. James" Gurley, who
states that this & six other songs were taped (reel to reel) by Janis
and left with him in the early '60s as an audition tape. The original tape
comprises the voice of Janis Joplin accompanying herself by acoustic guitar.
The full band overdub and CD release was around '96.
