2:19 Train aka Mamie's Blues aka Mamie Desdumes' Blues traditional circa
1900 attributed to Mamie Desdunes b. 25 Mar 1879 d. 4 Dec 1911
(mis-pronounced Desdumes) by Jelly Roll Morton who originally recorded it on
16 Dec 1939.

This is a song called two nineteen

Two nineteen, done took my man away
Two Nineteen, done took my man away
The two seventeen train, is bound to bring him back to me someday

I went down to the station, I watched a train roll by
I went down to the station, I watched a train roll by
Saw my man's face at the window lord, I hanged down my head and cried

I walked over that hill, the clouds were hangin' low
I walked over that hill, the clouds were hang - were hangin' low
Now I raise up my head and listen, mm, every time I hear a train whistle
blow

When a man gets the blues lord, he grabs a train and rides
When a man gets the blues lord, he grabs a train and rides
but-when a woman gets the blues honey, she hangs down her head and she cries

Was the two nineteen, that took my man away
Two Nineteen train, done took my man, took my man away
It's gonna be the two seventeen train, mm, that's gonna bring him back to
me someday ¥Ç¥

As recorded on CD "This Is Janis Joplin" (track 2) and backed by Big
Brother and the Holding Company guitarist, James "St. James" Gurley, who
states that this & six other songs were taped (reel to reel) by Janis (a
Cappella I presume) and left with him in the early '60s. The guitar overdub
and CD release was around '96.
